Pick Up Fishing Line (PPUFL) is a community-driven conservation effort focused on removing discarded monofilament line and tackle from local waterways, trees, and shorelines to protect wildlife from entanglement and fatal injuries.
How You Can Participate
- Clean Local Spots: Walk local lakes, rivers, or piers and collect any loose or tangled fishing line you find.
- Safely Dispose or Recycle: Pack out collected line and place it into dedicated monofilament recycling bins or secure trash receptacles.
- Report Entangled Wildlife: If you encounter an animal injured or trapped by gear, contact local rescue groups such as the Wildlife Care Association in Sacramento at 916-965-9453.
- Build a Recycling Bin: Construct PVC-based monofilament recycling collection stations for installation at popular local fishing access areas
