Friends of Lakes Folsom and Natoma (FOLFAN) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and the state park cooperating association for the Folsom Lake State Recreation Area (FLSRA). Our state park includes Lake Natoma, Folsom Lake, and portions of the American River.

Sacramento Area Creeks Council (SACC)
Preserve, protect, restore and maintain the natural streams in our urban communities through education, advocacy, financial support and technical expertise. SACC goal is to educate the general public on the aesthetic, recreational, educational, and ecological value of our urban creeks.
Dedicated to caring for and recovering America’s trout and salmon waters by identifying rivers and streams where the organization can have the greatest impact. Also very involved in providing healthy water for communities and agriculture, support ecosystems that are key to biodiversity and climate resilience and more.
An all volunteer advocacy organization working to protect damage and additional erosion to the American River Parkway by opposing the removal of 300 trees along the riverbank of the Parkway.
A group of community members who love the American River and wish to preserve this wild and scenic resource. Working with partners to preserve the parkway with sufficient ecological diversity and balance, and to maintain and improve access for recreation, species diversity, and to preserve historically relevant sites.

American River Parkway Volunteer Equestrian Patrol (website)
Primary purpose is to protect park property and resources, promote safety at park facilities. They provide this assistance to the public and Sacramento County Regional Parks by conducting mounted patrols along the 23 miles of the American River Parkway trails.
Sacramento Bird Alliance (website)
Sacramento Bird Alliance is the new name for Sacramento Audubon Society, approved by member votes at the end of May 2026. Website name and materials have not changed yet. Organization members provide advocacy and education for birds, in addition to presenting local bird watching field trips.
Waterbird Habitat Project (website)
Collaborates with anglers and local communities to retrieve abandoned fishing gear from the American River, raise awareness about its impact on wildlife, and promote stewardship of the river ecosystem.
Pick Up Fishing Line (PPUFL) is a community-driven conservation effort focused on removing discarded monofilament line and tackle from local waterways, trees, and shorelines to protect wildlife from entanglement and fatal injuries.

Advises the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors on issues pertaining to the disability community and County compliance with Federal and State laws and regulations.

Sacramento Water Forum (website)
A voluntary organization started by the City and County of Sacramento in 1993 to protect the region’s water supplies and the habitat of the lower American River; its Water Forum 2050 Agreement covers the next 25 years.
