Walk A Shelter Dog

Barks & Recreation is a program with Sacramento County Parks that gives you the opportunity to take a shelter dog for a fun day out! The dogs pictured below are just a couple of the pups available both for a day out AND for adoption! Give a dog a good day and find your new best friend! Thanks to the donations of the Friends of Sailor Bar and the work of Sacramento County Regional Parks maintenance crew, a drinking fountain for Fido and Her Human is scheduled to be installed at the Olive Avenue parking lot during the Fall of 2026.

Check in or subscribe to get updates about adoptable doggies and their status! Abigale was adopted, and then returned so she is available. Theo is still available for adoption as of October 27th. He is such a sweet well behaved doggie - staff at the shelter are wondering why the heck he has not been adopted yet. Theo had a great time on his on leash walk and Sailor Bar and then going to the Gluten Off bakery afterward. Theo liked sitting with his human friend on a bench along the trail. Theo gets along well with other dogs and children. Sara is going to bring him to the Trick or Treat event in the Village on Thursday! You can meet Theo there -- or check him out of the shelter for a walk.
